The International Projects Office at the German Jordanian University (GJU) organized a workshop on the European Regional Cooperation Program “INTERREG NEXT MED”, funded by the European Union. The workshop was presented by Dr. Ismat Al-Karadsheh, the regional coordinator of the program.

Al-Karadsheh emphasized that the program aims to enhance the exchange of experiences and knowledge between Mediterranean countries and the European Union. It also provides significant opportunities for universities and institutions in the participating countries to secure funding for joint projects aimed at improving regional cooperation and supporting sustainable development.

Al-Karadsheh presented the available opportunities for funding joint projects with universities and institutions from the European Union and explained the application process for these opportunities.

He also shared some success stories from GJU that were previously funded through the program. These projects focused on sustainable environmental transformation and enhancing international cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and environmental management.

Among the projects highlighted was the “Eco Youth” project, which aims to raise environmental awareness among youth and encourage their participation in sustainable activities. The project supports knowledge exchange among young people and contributes to building their skills in environmental innovation, while working on sustainable solutions to the environmental challenges facing the region.

At the end of the workshop, Al-Karadsheh stressed the importance of active participation in this program, pointing out that “INTERREG NEXT MED” provides an ideal platform to expand cooperation between higher education institutions in the Mediterranean region and the European Union. It also enhances opportunities for developing projects that contribute to addressing the environmental and social challenges in the region.
