
The German Jordanian University (GJU) and the Jordan Securities Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday at the university's campus in Jabal Amman, aiming to develop cooperation and enhance the partnership between the two sides.
The MoU was signed by the university's president, Prof. Alaaldeen Al-Halhouli, and the chairman of the commission, Dr. Adel Beno, in the presence of the university's vice president, Prof. Malek Al-Sharairi, the university president's advisor for university life, Prof. Ala Khalifeh, the dean of the Business School, Dr. Loay BaniIsmail, and Dr. Nabih Mousa, a member of the Securities Commission’s Board of Commissioners, along with several relevant staff members.
Prof. Al-Halhouli emphasized the university's commitment to strengthening cooperation with national institutions concerned with the financial sector to develop and activate activities in various areas of mutual interest. He also expressed the university's readiness to cooperate in all areas, particularly in the field of virtual and digital currencies, by incorporating them into the curriculum for business students and introducing tracks related to financial services, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and financial technology.
Prof. Al-Halhouli also reviewed the university's development, focusing on its applied specializations, community responsibility, and its interaction with national institutions and the local community.
For his part, Dr. Beno, the chairman of the Securities Commission, affirmed that the signing of the MoU is part of a project to enhance cooperation between the commission and the university. The goal is to raise awareness among the university's students about the securities market, its local and international regulations, and international practices, and to equip them with the skills necessary to work in capital market institutions.
Dr. Beno added that the MoU aims to train students and develop their skills before graduation to prepare them for the job market, which is witnessing developments in the financial services sector. He noted that cooperation with the university would provide students with the knowledge, skills, and requirements needed to work as certified financial brokers, in line with ongoing updates to the regulations governing various aspects of the securities market. He also suggested coordinating to benefit from the expertise and capabilities of the university's teaching staff, offering technical consultations within this framework.
The university’s Vice President, Prof. Malek Al-Sharairi, pointed out that the MoU perfectly aligns with the university’s approach as a model for applied education, combining academic and practical aspects. He highlighted the university’s commitment to engaging and forming partnerships with public and private sector institutions to provide students with practical experience and exposure to opportunities that enhance their readiness for the labor market. He confirmed that collaboration with the Securities Commission, in light of the technological advancements influencing financial markets and regulatory bodies, offers students a chance to closely observe these developments in the financial market environment. It also provides an opportunity to acquire specialized skills in the financial sectors, enabling them to compete in this vital field. Additionally, the cooperation allows the university’s specialized academics to participate in joint advisory committees with the commission to contribute to achieving its goals of updating regulatory and legislative frameworks that keep pace with rapid developments.
The MoU also stipulates conducting periodic training lectures for students in fields related to financial markets, preparing a special program for university students that gives them the opportunity to present new financial ideas, especially related to financial technology, and to support and benefit from them to stimulate their abilities. Furthermore, it includes technical and professional cooperation between specialists from both parties and the suggestion of specific educational materials by the commission to be included in courses related to the capital market, aiming to spread financial literacy among students and provide them with the necessary skills to work in capital market institutions. The MoU also includes enhancing joint cooperation in areas such as training, lecturing, preparing joint scientific research, exchanging expertise, organizing joint lectures, workshops, seminars, and scientific conferences, and sharing publications, journals, and research results.
